About the project
Trains need to be regularly serviced and are often brought into the depot for maintenance. The depot platforms are cramped and have many steel columns and beams which can make working on the trains difficult using standard mobile platforms. The scope was to scan the train in situ to design a bespoke mobile platform that can work on the trains without clashing with its surroundings.
- The platform and surrounding structures were 3D modelled allowing the platform to be designed to work within the space constraints.
- The congested platform area was easily captured, and scanning ensured no detail was missed.
- The trains have a limited time in the depot which is why scanning was the ideal option.
