Capturing buildings with a laser scanner allows you to bring the building back to the office and provides the basis for extremely accurate 2D floor plans, elevations and sections or 3D models. It allows you to interrogate the information in far more depth than with traditional techniques. This is especially relevant to older buildings which may not be particularly square.
Quicker than traditional methods on site, scanning will also pick up extra detail such as the surrounding buildings and topography. It can also reduce the need for extra site visits to collect further detail as more often than not, the information required has already been scanned.
