Building Information Modelling is a digital model representing the physical building. The model contains properties such as architectural detail, structural information and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems. Having all this detail in one place allows greater collaboration between contractors throughout the cycle of the build which helps both efficiency and cost.
Laser scanning is ideal in retrofit and refurbishment projects. Scanning the existing stripped out building provides the basis for the BIM model going forward. Scanning can then be carried out at regular intervals to understand if the project is on track by providing as built information to check against the proposed design model.
